We’re developing a new scripted comedy series at HBO Max with Chris Powell, aka Comedian CP, set to headline. As Deadline reported today, “My Father‘s Son” is inspired by Powell’s relationship with his dad and landed at the streamer in a competitive situation.
Powell is co-writing with Isaiah Lester (“black-ish“) while Richie Keen (“It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia”) is attached to direct. The trio executive produce alongside Five All’s Douglas Banker and Underground’s Trevor Engelson.
CP hosted our first ever TV show, “World Star TV,” back in 2017 and we’ve been developing projects with him ever since. He's also been extremely busy acting, writing, and performing standup, most recently starring as a series-regular role on the second season of HBO Max’s “Love Life.“ He also served as a writer and recurring guest star on Comedy Central’s “Detroiters,” wrote for and appeared on “Ole Bud’s ANU Football Weekly,” and recurred on “Empire” and “White Famous.”
We’re so grateful for years of friendship and collaboration with one of the funniest, hardest-working comedians in the business, and we’re alsoexcited to have our first project in the works at HBO Max.
